Simple Security Measures Can Add Value to a Home

According to a recent Halifax survey, the second most cost effective property improvement in terms of the return on investment that homeowners can make is the installation of gates. In fact the addition of this form of security product is only a runner up to energy efficiency and fuel efficiency costs.

At first glance this is somewhat surprising as most homeowners will automatically assume that adding a new kitchen or bathroom would be top of the pile.

In comparison when you look a little closer at the detail the minimal cost of purchasing a new gate and the fact they can be installed on a DIY basis coupled with the fact that they not only provide increased levels of security and privacy and it is obvious to see why they rank so highly.

It is therefore easy to assume that many people actually think that simple home improvement projects will add the most perceived value to a property.

However, whilst this may be the case for a new gate, it does not apply across the board. For example adding excessive areas of wooden decking or ornate fountains can actually detract from the perceived value of the home so always be careful when planning such projects or you may end up throwing money away.
